Why Libori is so special

Libori is more than just a folk festival – it is the heartbeat of Paderborn in summer. Families, friends and anyone who wants to enjoy a real festival atmosphere come together amid fairground rides, music, regional specialities and a festive atmosphere. Those who love the hustle and bustle during the day will be all the more delighted to return to a quiet, comfortable home away from home in the evening: at Welcome Hotels.

For many Paderborn residents, Libori is like the city's ‘fifth season’.
Once a year, Paderborn is transformed into a lively meeting place full of tradition, joie de vivre and shared experiences.

Amidst fairground rides, music, regional specialities and a festive atmosphere, families, friends and guests from near and far come together to celebrate this unique event.

Libori has its roots in 836, when the relics of St. Liborius were transferred from Le Mans to Paderborn. Over the centuries, this religious occasion developed into a special combination of church festival, funfair and market – a combination that makes Libori so unique to this day. This makes the festival one of the oldest and largest folk festivals in Germany and continues to shape the identity of the city to this day.

During the day, colourful stalls, cheerful hustle and bustle and traditional programme items attract visitors to the city centre. When the lights of the fair shine in the evening and the city continues to celebrate, the anticipation of a relaxing retreat grows.
