The face behind the culinary highlights
One of our trademarks is our upscale gastronomy, which attracts many Bochum residents and guests from all over Germany. This success is thanks to Björn Reckeweg and his team of 8.
Björn began his career in his father's garage and has been working in the kitchens of upmarket hotels and restaurants in Germany for over 20 years. He completed his training at Schloss Martfeld in Schwelm under Kai Weidner, followed by stints at the gourmet restaurant Florians in Dortmund, the L'árrive Hotel & SPA and the Hotel Vierjahreszeiten in Iserlohn.
In May 2024, Björn joined the WELCOME team in Bochum and accompanied the kitchen renovation in the pre-opening phase. Since July 1, 2024, he has been leading the team that cooks for VIU's guests with a variety of ingredients, recipes, motivation and passion. The menu includes German classics as well as French and Asian influences, including salmon tartare, nori, creppinett, tarte tatin and truffled cauliflower soup. Björn's signature dish is the pulled duck burger with cranberry sauce, mountain cheese and wild herb salad. Inspired by local and seasonal offerings, Björn and his team modernize old classics with new influences and preparation methods, allowing guests to constantly experience new culinary delights.
