Casals Forum

Kronberg Castle

Kronberg Castle is one of the highlights of the Taunus region, combining rich medieval history with an engaging museum experience. The complex comprises the Upper Castle, dating back to the 12th century, and the later Middle Castle, which once served as a residence. Following a period of decline, the castle was carefully restored from 1892 onwards under the patronage of Empress Victoria. Today, a permanent exhibition brings the history of the Lords of Kronberg and the evolution of the castle to life. Particularly noteworthy are the reconstructed suits of knight’s armour and the impressive Gothic kitchen. Visits are available as part of guided tours – an experience that is equally fascinating for children.

Opel-Zoo

The Opel Zoo near Kronberg im Taunus is an ideal day-out destination for the whole family. Set across approximately 27 hectares, it is home to over 1,600 animals from more than 220 species – including elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, and red pandas – all housed in spacious, naturalistic enclosures. Younger visitors will particularly enjoy the petting zoo as well as pony and camel rides. Expansive playgrounds and interactive nature trails offer plenty of variety, while guided tours and seasonal events take place throughout the year. For a relaxing break, kiosks and the Sambesi restaurant provide a range of refreshments, with the added highlight of views overlooking the elephant enclosure.

3-Castle Trail

The 3-Castle Trail in the Taunus connects the castles at Kronberg, Falkenstein and Königstein via a varied hiking route. Depending on the route chosen, the circular walk is around 9 or 13 kilometres long and leads through woodland and hilltop landscapes with beautiful views, such as from the Kocherfels or Hildablick. The shorter route is particularly well suited to families with children, who can discover and explore the castles along the way. An ideal combination of nature, exercise and history.

Königstein & Falkenstein

Königstein im Taunus combines a charming town centre with an impressive castle landscape. Its most prominent landmark is Königstein Castle, whose imposing keep is among the largest of its kind in Germany. From the top, visitors are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views across the Taunus mountains; on clear days, the vista extends as far as the Main Valley and the Odenwald.

Just nearby, the charming district of Falkenstein (Königstein) invites visitors with its historic centre and impressive castle ruins. The 14th-century Falkenstein Castle offers fascinating insights into the past, along with magnificent views across the Vordertaunus hills towards the Frankfurt skyline.
