Goethe House

Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born in the house on the Großer Hirschgraben and grew up there. He spent his childhood and most of his youth here, until in 1775 he accepted the invitation of Hereditary Prince Carl August of Saxony Weimar-Eisenach to Weimar. In his parents' house, Goethe created his impressive early works, including "Götz von Berlichingen", the original version of "Faust" and "The Sorrows of Young Werther", which made him world famous overnight. The Old Opera on the Opernplatz in Frankfurt am Main is a concert and event venue. It was built from 1873 to 1880 as the opera house of the municipal theaters.

The volunteer guides from the ranks of the FRIENDS of the Old Opera will be happy to show you the house and the complex processes that are necessary to ensure that everything runs smoothly when the stars from classical music and entertainment are on the podium. They also allow a look into those rooms that would otherwise remain hidden from the public. Where does a conductor focus in the last minutes before the concert? What does a stage manager's workplace look like? Where are the concert grand pianos stored?
